Privacy policy

Effective date: 18 May 2026

This policy explains what information DokaLab collects when you visit dokalab.uk, how that information is used, and what rights you have over it. DokaLab is a personal blog operated by a single individual (referred to throughout as “DokaLab”, “we”, or “us”).

Information we collect

Server logs

When you visit any page, the web server automatically records your IP address, browser type and version, the referring URL, the pages you request, and the date and time of the request. These logs are standard operating records used for security monitoring and diagnosing technical issues.

View tracking

Each post records an approximate view count. To avoid inflating counts with repeat visits while preserving your privacy, DokaLab uses a daily-rotating salt to hash a combination of IP address and User-Agent. The resulting hash is stored temporarily (no longer than 48 hours) to detect duplicate views within that window. After the salt rotates, the hash cannot be reversed or linked back to you. No individual visitor profile is retained.

Cookies

DokaLab does not set cookies on ordinary visitors' browsers. A session cookie (dokalab_admin_session) is used exclusively for site administration and is only present if you are logged in as an administrator. You are almost certainly not.

Third-party services

Cloudflare

The site is served through Cloudflare's content-delivery network. Cloudflare processes requests on DokaLab's behalf to provide fast delivery and security. Cloudflare also provides server-side edge analytics (aggregated traffic counts). These analytics use a daily-salted hash of visitor information and do not place cookies on your browser or track you across sites. See Cloudflare's own privacy policy for full details.

Google AdSense (planned — not yet active)

DokaLab intends to enable Google AdSense advertising in the future, once the site has sufficient content. AdSense is not currently active. When it is enabled, Google will use cookies and similar technologies to serve personalised advertisements. Visitors in the UK, European Economic Area, and Switzerland will be presented with a consent banner before any AdSense cookies are set; personalised advertising will only be activated with your explicit consent. You can learn more in Google's privacy policy.

Search engine webmaster tools

DokaLab uses Google Search Console, Naver Search Advisor, and Bing Webmaster Tools to understand how search engines index the site. These tools operate server-to-server and do not collect or process any visitor data on DokaLab's behalf.

How we use information

  • Site analytics — understanding traffic patterns and which content is useful.
  • Content performance — per-post view counts help identify which posts are read most.
  • Operations — server logs support security monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Future advertising — when AdSense is activated, personalised ad delivery will be added as a purpose, but only where you have given consent.

DokaLab does not sell, rent, or share personal data with any third party for their own marketing purposes.

Cookies and similar technologies

First-party cookies: only an admin session cookie, which is not set for ordinary visitors.

Third-party cookies: none at present. Google AdSense cookies will be added when that service is activated, and only with consent for visitors in relevant jurisdictions.

Managing cookies: you can block or delete cookies at any time via your browser settings. When AdSense is active, a consent banner will allow you to accept or decline personalised advertising before any such cookies are set.

Data retention

  • View tracking hashes: expire within 48 hours as the daily salt rotates. Post-level view counts (aggregate numbers only, not linked to individuals) are retained indefinitely.
  • Server logs: purged within 30 days under standard hosting practice.
  • Admin session: tied to the authentication lifecycle; invalidated on log-out.

International data transfers

DokaLab's servers are located in the United Kingdom. By using the site, data you provide (including IP addresses in server logs) is processed there. Because the site is served through Cloudflare's global network, requests may be handled at edge nodes in other countries. When Google AdSense is activated, data will additionally be processed by Google in the United States. DokaLab relies on the Standard Contractual Clauses and other appropriate safeguards required under UK GDPR and EU GDPR for such transfers.

Your rights

Under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and, where applicable, EU GDPR and UK PECR, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access — to request a copy of the personal data DokaLab holds about you.
  • Right to erasure — to request deletion of your personal data where there is no overriding legitimate reason to retain it.
  • Right to rectification — to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to object — to object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing.
  • Right to data portability — to receive your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
  • Right to lodge a complaint— with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) if you are in the UK, or your relevant national data-protection authority if you are in the EEA.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact DokaLab at [email protected]. DokaLab will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (generally one calendar month).

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 where required by local law). DokaLab does not knowingly collect or process personal data from minors. If you believe a child has provided personal data through this site, please contact DokaLab and we will take steps to remove it promptly.

Changes to this policy

DokaLab may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. For significant changes, DokaLab will where reasonably practicable draw attention to the update.
